Altered books

Working in old books instead of new sketchbooks – can be a challenge and an inspiration.

The first “problem” is finding a suitable book and this seems to be easier in  the UK than in Denmark. There are so many second hand shops, and a much greater array of books that have been published. The pages should not be too flimsy or the book too big (and daunting). Secondly, it is great if they have some illustrations and a theme that is of interest. I was very fortunate to find these two; a school dictionary from the 1950’s and a book about flowers, at a nearby charity shop.

And many thanks to Linda and Laura Kemshall and DMTV for all their ideas and inspiration for working with altered books.
