I have been working on the tree piece and I am nearly there. I found that the dark “drawn” lines were very important to the picture and chose a dark greeny/blue for these. The colour fitted in with the other colours used, and the piece needed the contrast and definition. I very rarely use black as this can be so dominant and a dark grey, blue or brown can be a better choice. I will return to the piece tomorrow, and look at it with new eyes. Then I hope I can see what is needed to finish it off.
